It is very nice to see people’s reactions to the Soundbombs project: Not only the reactions by pedestrians meeting one in the city, but also the reaction of the critics on this low-tech object. The first question I always have to answer is “why???”. Well, all this developed from “fun-projects” I did in street art. I used very noisy alarm tunes to leave sounds in the urbanity. An idea which is not new, but it worked very well to get people out of their lethargy. That is where the name “Soundbombs” comes from - the early versions were very loud! Of course there was the wish to make something more beautiful so I started to record compliments and poems which were played from trees when somebody walked underneath them. It became a kind of expensive idea because each version was stolen the next day. I decided to go another way; anybody can apply for one by making an offer and a reason to use it. So, if the offer is very low - the idea has to be very good! I won’t just sell it for money to anybody who doesn’t have a relation to the object. Therefore I describe it as an élitist object. The élitists in this case are the creative people and not the rich ones!
